Gunilla visited the University of Bergen to launch her new book: Ethics and Mathematics: For Students by Students!
The book is a collection of essays written by students enrolled in a science and ethics course at the University of Bergen. The essays are framed by an expert introduction and concluding analysis and provide a rare and engaging entry point into a field where literature for students remains scarce.

Researchers, community members, and students from Aotearoa (New Zealand), the University of British Columbia, the University of Toronto, and the University of Guelph met at Garden River First Nation to open the NFRF-T Project they co-lead, "Transforming Chemical Risk Management with Indigenous Expertise". Through group discussion, ceremonies, shared meals, and co-learning, the group built relationships that will be central to the project's flourishing. The gathering opened with a pipe ceremony in the lodge at Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig, followed by an in-depth presentation of the six sub-projects and a round of introductions. On the last day, an elder from the community, Doreen, led a tour of Garden River First Nation, sharing stories and teachings based on the places the group visited. What a special way to close this important opening gathering!

Some Egesta lab members and a few visitors from Aotearoa (New Zealand) were stranded in Vancouver when their flights to Garden River were cancelled last-minute! We quickly organized a smaller gathering here, joining with the Garden River team remotely when it was possible. While we were initially disappointed we couldn't all be together, we made the best of our time here, exploring our beaches and forests, sharing meals, discussing how we can communicate across cultures, and learning about local First Nations. In one of our first sessions, Jamie said he hoped we would all feel like family by the end of the 6-year project. At the end of this short gathering, we already felt well on our way to that goal.

To conclude a busy year of learning and research, the Egesta Lab gathered in Dr. Gunilla Öberg's backyard for an in-person meeting and a meal. We also had a chance to meet new lab members in person and chat about individual and collective goals for the next few months.
A special way to close this exciting chapter, before opening a new one come September!
Super exciting!

The Egesta Lab team gathered for a lab social where Dr. Gunilla Öberg shared a Swedish Christian tradition. The group enjoyed homemade semlor (cardamom buns filled with almond paste and whipped cream) in celebration of Fettisdagen.
Thank you for hosting and preparing delicious semlor Dr. Gunilla Öberg!
