Dayna (she/her) is a settler of many generations who was born and grew up in the lands of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek peoples (Sudbury, Ontario). Her childhood growing up in nature is what ignited her love of the all things living, and led her to study the environment. Years of studying shaped her passion for nature and people into environmental justice work. Dayna now lives, learns and unlearns on the land of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples (Vancouver).
In 2022 she received a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Guelph in Environmental Governance and Public Policy. In 2024, Dayna completed her MA in Resources, Environment & Sustainability, producing her thesis: “Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act: The Right to a Healthy Environment & Accountability in Chemicals Management”.
Her PhD now contributes towards subproject 3 of the All Our Chemical Relations project — Dayna’s previous interest in policy is what led her to investigate theories of system change, and how we can best implement and include the education materials this subproject intends to create across scales in Canada. She hopes this work will help sustain the use of the materials created, long after this project has come to a close.
