New Project! Transforming Chemical Risk Management with Indigenous Expertise
Research Coordinator for the "Transforming Chemical Risk Management with Indigenous Expertise" Project
Institute for Resources, Environmnent, and Sustainability, UBC
Noah (he/him) is a research coordinator on the "Transforming Chemical Risk Management with Indigenous Expertise” project, working primarily with Gunilla Öberg and Amanda Giang at UBC. He provides research support and serves as a liaison between the Egesta lab, other sub projects, and outside collaborators. He is interested in moving beyond Western-centric ways of teaching in the classroom, and engaging students in the physical, emotional, and spiritual domains of learning.
Noah grew up in Edmonton in a family of German-settler origin, and completed his BSc in Chemistry and Biology at the University of Alberta. He moved out to Vancouver in 2021 and completed his MSc in Chemistry, with a focus on teaching, robotics, and purification. After completing his MSc, he continued working in the department of chemistry as an Educational Developer, designing curriculum that brings Indigenous ways of knowing into the classroom, and facilitating learning opportunities in this area for faculty. He made learning activities for CHEM 121, 301 and 300 in collaboration with local Indigenous communities, focusing on approaches that centre reflection and reciprocity.
Outside of work, Noah is often hanging around on ropes, either on sunny climbing walls or in dark caves. He likes cooking, baking, and discovering new music, and enjoys serving communities in volunteer kitchens and harm reduction services.
